He is considered one of the greatest\u00a0marine artists\u00a0in history. Being one of the most prominent\u00a0Russian artists\u00a0of his time, Aivazovsky was also popular outside Russia. He held numerous\u00a0solo exhibitions\u00a0in Europe and the United States. During his almost 60-year career, he created around 6,000 paintings, making him one of the most prolific artists of his time. The vast majority of his works are\u00a0seascapes, but he often depicted battle scenes, Armenian themes, and portraiture. This tradition began after the end of World War II, when several Leningrad schools united to celebrate the end of the school year in connection with the symbolism of the popular children\u2019s book Scarlet Sails by Alexander Grin. It is a demonstration of freedom from school and rules.
