In the uppermost layer of freshwater live daphnia and copepods. At the lowest layer, where the salinity reaches 3.3%, purple bacteria are the only inhabitants. In the middle layers are typical\u00a0sea creatures, such as sea stars. They are kind of trapped as they can\u00a0not live either in the\u00a0upper layer or lower layer.
