Milan has always been one of the best cities in Italy. At the same time, it is the business center with crazy city rhythm and one of the most attractive touristy places where everyone can find something what fits his interests – shopping, sightseeing, museums, concerts, restaurants. There are thousands of opportunities, but even if you have only one day, it’s worth to see it! Here are some things to do and tips from our guide:
From my own experience I know that even if you have only one day in Milan, it is pretty enough to explore the main spots and get to know what Milan is like. Here is a list of «must-do» activities to make this day memorable.
- Of course, the first place where all the tourists go is Duomo Square. Mind that lines to the Duomo cathedral are not short (especially in high season), but it is not less beautiful from the outside. It is the largest church in Italy and the third largest in the world, which took six centuries to complete! Walk around it looking at the details of exterior, get the real feeling of medieval times, get impressed by its size and beauty!
- What can be special in simple Margarita you think? Although the motherland of Margarita is Napoli, get this pizza at Duomo square from one of snack bars, it was the best Margarita I have ever had.
- Explore The Gallery of Vittorio Emanuele II – one of the first European passages which was completed in 1877. It connects Duomo Square with the world-famous La Scala Theatre.
- Get traditional Italian Aperitif (a glass of Aperol Spritz with local appetizes) in Terrazza Aperol – one of the best bars in Milan with incredible view at the Duomo Square.
- Don`t miss a chance to taste Gelato! You can bravely get it from any shop, Italy is famous for the best ice-cream in the world. The variety of flavors is endless. My favorite ones are Nutella and Pistachio.
- Have a walk towards Santa Maria delle Grazie church – the masterpiece of Renaissance architecture and Italian Gothic style. In its refectory there is one of the most famous frescos – The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. However, if you wish to take a look at the fresco, you must make a reservation at least a month before your visit. It is possible to arrange your visit via one of travel companies, but the price will be much higher.
- Did you know that Venice is not the only Italian city which has canals? The Navigli canal system in Milan consists of five canals, nowadays two of them are a nightlife pole – nice place to finish your day having dinner in one of restaurants around.
IMPORTANT!
If you are going to use public transport, please mind that it is not possible to buy ticket on a bus! The tickets are sold in kiosks, just think about it in advance not to be at a loss like I was! And don`t forget to stamp it.
Beware about your belongings, pickpocketing in Milan is a common thing.
Get maximum from your time in Milan! Ciao!
